A couple of weeks ago I took the boys to the doctor for their three year check up (they were three on May 19) and thought I would do a post about where we are right now...this will be a pretty wordy post.
Jake is 39 inches tall (90th%) and 35.5 lbs (75th%).
Miles is 38.5 inches tall (90th%) and 34 lbs (75th).
They are both very active, energetic, TALKATIVE, CURIOUS, sweet and loving boys. I would like to stress how talkative and curious they are. They really take the questioning and constant chatter to a whole new level. It literally. does. not. stop. ever. Sometimes it is exhausting but I do love how inquisitive they are. Their doctor could hardly get a word in edgewise in the appointment. Somehow she asked them about their favorite things to eat and I think they went on to name every single type of food that has ever gone into their mouths, what they liked about it, where it ranked, etc.
I know all parents think their kids are the smartest, cutest, funniest kids and we are no exception. They really are hilarious. I am going to have to start writing some stuff down because they crack me up.
Miles is really into all things sports right now. He has some football books and can name any and all football players and coaches in there. The funniest thing about it is that it is a pretty old book (and not a children's book) so he knows all of these players that are really out-dated and old and no longer playing. He got a UT football jersey for his birthday and not a day goes by that he does not ask to wear it..."why didn't you do the laundry mommy? is it clean today mommy? how about now? can I sleep in it tonight? wear it to the pool?" He likes to play, watch, talk about golf, baseball, football, basketball, soccer, tennis... He has sports figures that come everywhere with him...baseball and football guys that he likes to set up.
Jake can talk and carry on a conversation longer than most adults I know. He doesn't miss anything...there is no use whispering, spelling or speaking in code around him because he will spout it right back out at you (or at someone else when you least expect it). He is all about legos and cars. Jake builds things with a lot of precision and definitely goes into it with a plan. Don't worry...he will let you know if you out a lego in the wrong spot. He is a very good artist and likes to color, draw, sticker, etc.
They both love music, books and swimming. They can pick up any book that we have read and recite it word for word. They have guitars and microphones and perform concerts for us constantly. They love listening to music and know as many song titles, words, band & band member names as I do. They also happen to have great taste in music, which works out well for us. Right now a few of their favorites are Black Keys, Ben Harper & Paul Simon. One of their favorite things to do is watch performances and we see them studying the moves and then they show up in their own performances. We have managed to take them to quite a few concerts and that is definitely one of their favorite things to do. They have started swimming lessons and we've started going to the pool in our neighborhood more. They are pretty timid in the water and I can already see them getting more and more confident. This is a good thing because it is SO HOT here right now...we've already hit 106 and it's only June.
They are obsessed with their family & friends and talk about everyone all of the time. If they had their way we would live on the same street with everyone we know and would see them all constantly. They already recognize how blessed they are with wonderful grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. They also have a fun little group of friends...a combination of our friends' kids, kids from the neighborhood and kids from their preschool program at the church.
We are working on some of the typical three-year-old-toddler things...getting rid of the whine, not messing with our brothers too much, etc. We also have not ditched diapers yet. I certainly thought we would be done with those by now. We tried about a few weeks ago and they just weren't ready. All I hear about boys and twin boys is don't push it. When they are ready it will be easy. So...we will try again later this summer. I really plan on being out of them by the fall, but often times my plans don't mean much!
So...if you're still reading...they are thriving three-year-olds and bring us so much joy and wear us out all of the time!
